Intermediaries struggling with their CeMap revision can now access an electronic help service set up by Scottish Widows Bank.

By emailing cemap.help@scottishwidows.co.uk brokers can receive help with any problems encountered while studying.

Gordon Bowden, business development director at Scottish Widows, said: ‘We offer guidance to introducers which includes a direct link to the Institute of Bankers in Scotland. All our staff have almost completed CeMap and our business development manager can offer them support. In addition to encouraging advisers, we felt we should be proactive and provide practical assistance.’

Scottish Widows has also been hosting seminars in conjunction with Bankhall and feedback from advisers has provided an insight into some of the problems advisers face when sitting exams.

Bowden said: ‘The seminars have provided us with feedback from brokers. Intermediary problems tend to be in the areas of the mortgage market which they don’t usually deal in. CeMap goes in to a lot of depth and problems seem to arise on the tax-related questions.’

But despite providing additional support, Bowden believes some intermediaries are at risk of failing the exams due to leaving their revision until the last minute.

He said: ‘I get the impression many advisers are leaving study until the last minute, thinking they can cram it in ‘ but this isn’t the case. ‘
