Moneysupermarket.com has reached an agreement with BSkyB to provide mortgage and loan channels on Sky Active, its interactive service.

Leads from this service will be fed to the Professional Adviser Alliance (PAA), the informal network of intermediaries providing independent advice from leads generated through moneysupermarket.com.

The deal increases the scope of the PAA to do business, as 15 million digital satellite viewers will now be able to search for mortgages from home.

Those who do not wish to apply for mortgages via their television can request an adviser call them, as is the case with moneysupermarket.com’s current internet service. At the moment, around 500,000 BSkyB customers access the interactive area a day.

Simon Nixon, chief executive of the PAA, said: ‘Our experience has revealed most people are happy to research mortgages online, but they shy away from applying online due to their big ticket nature. As a result, the internet is turning into one of the strongest distribution channels for advisers and we expect digital TV to follow in its footsteps.

‘The success of the PAA, which only receives leads from websites and shortly, BSkyB digital TV, is living proof of this. Moneysupermarket.com’s partnership with Sky Interactive opens up its mortgage and loan comparison service to millions of potential customers.’

The news follows on from the announcement last month that the PAA would be doubling the number of intermediary members to 600, due to an increase in the volume of leads through the internet since it started up in May this year.
