The Association of British Insurers (ABI) has provided practical advice on the measures homeowners can take to improve a property’s resistance to flood damage. Homeowners can now assess the costs and benefits of installing various flood resistance measures.

Nearly two million homes in England and Wales are at risk of either river or coastal flooding, while winter rainfall is likely to increase by 30% by 2080, increasing flood risks. Currently, the average claim size is £30,000. The publication of the new guidance coincides with the recent launch of the first British Standard Kitemark scheme for flood protection products.
