Sub-prime broker The Mortgage Group (TMG) has opened two centres in Falmouth, creating 260 jobs. The centres, located opposite each other in the town have cost TMG £5m to get up and running and are expected to help grow company sales over the next 12 months to £1bn.The operation is currently delivering sales of around £60m a month.

Tony Murtagh, managing director of TMG said: ‘This is a major strategic milestone for TMG and Falmouth and Cornwall in general. We have brought over 200 jobs to one of the most important towns in the region ‘ and we are preparing to create many more full-time and part-time positions which will be brought on line as we continue to hit our business targets.’

Murtagh added: ‘I believe Cornwall is the best part of the UK to base any business, not just a company that specialises in the financial services sector. Our results ‘ and the performance and morale of our staff ‘ certainly reflect this. I believe our new Falmouth facility will enable us to move into another gear.’ The two centres will add to TMG’s existing operations in Truro, Droitwich and Crewe, which currently house around 700 staff between them.

TMG offers mortgages from igroup, First National, Kensington and its own lending facility Mortgage Top Ups. It has also recently started offering commercial mortgages through Commercial First. TMG is set to remain focused on the sub-prime market, but is considering further expansion of its product range.
