Retailing giant Asda is moving into the mortgage protection market with the launch of term and decreasing term assurance. The new insurances are being publicised through 40 trial stores serviced by a central call centre.

The policies will be underwritten by Scottish Widows and supplement the pet, home and travel insurances that are already on offer and underwritten by Norwich Union.

David Rutley, director of financial services at Asda, said: “This is a further illustration of our commitment to this area. We will bring customers Asda’s famously low prices backed up by fantastic customer service. We aim for all our insurance services to be easy to understand, and life insurances are no different.”
