British Friendly enhances short-term protection options
British Friendly has boosted the deferred period options on short-term income protection products, available exclusively through advisers.

Options in its Short Tem Protect and Breathing Space products will now have deferred period options – the time a claimant needs to be off work for the policy to start accumulating benefit – of one, four, eight and 13 weeks.

The changes mean that British Friendly’s short-term income protection deals now have the widest deferred period options on the market for one, two or five-year claim periods, it said.

Advisers can access the products on British Friendly’s quote and apply website and on Webline. It will be rolled-out to other portals in the coming weeks.

Iain Clark, distribution and marketing director at British Friendly, said: “We have been working hard over the last eight months to make it as easy as possible for advisers to do business with us.

“We want, in turn, to make it as easy as possible for advisers to do business with their clients and expanding the deferred period options our short-term IP to make it market leading is a logical step. We want to provide as many comprehensive, flexible and affordable options as possible.”

Tom Conner, director at Drewberry Insurance, added that the changes would have “an immediate impact” on the recommendations it made to clients.
