Hammond confirms first Autumn Statement as Chancellor
Chancellor Philip Hammond will deliver his first Autumn Statement on 23 November, the Treasury has confirmed.

Hammond was appointed Chancellor in July following a Cabinet reshuffle after Theresa May replaced David Cameron as Prime Minister.

During the 2015 Autumn Statement, former Chancellor George Osborne announced that purchasers of second homes would be subject to a higher rate of Stamp Duty from 1 April this year. This was seen as the final nail in the coffin for the market after Osborne delivered a Budget outlining changes to the amount of mortgage interest relief landlords would be allowed to claim.

The Autumn Statement is based on the latest forecasts from the Office for Budget Responsibility for the economy and public finances.
