CA conference is a ‘call to arms’ for the industry, says Goldsmith
The Conveyancing Association (CA) will be holding a ‘modernising conveyancing’ conference in an attempt to get all the different sectors of the market to work collaboratively to develop solutions to the legal problems within the house purchase process.

Taking place on Thursday 1 December at Stamford Bridge, the conference will be led by Eddie Goldsmith [pictured], chairman of the Conveyancing Association, who has urged all conveyancers, lenders, mortgage advisers and estate agents to attend.

The conference will include a number of panel sessions with the focus on the CA’s soon-to-be published White Paper, which will outline a number of suggestions to improve and develop the house purchase process.

Goldsmith said the conference is a “call to arms” for the conveyancing profession and wants more done by the industry as a whole to improve the consumer’s experience of buying a house, which is unfairly seen as one of the most stressful experiences in a person’s life.

“The government has tried to help in the past on this issue but it didn’t have the cooperation of all the industries involved.

“It is time for all of us in the industry to come together and take matters into our own hands and face this head on,” said Goldsmith.

He is optimistic the Modernising Conveyancing conference will mark a significant change in attitudes from different industries citing a real willingness on everyone’s part to come together and figure out the best solution.

The conference will include keynote speeches by Baroness Hayter, a former member of the National Consumer Council and a session from Professor Richard Susskind OBE.
