Sadiq Khan pledges support for London’s developers
The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has pledged his commitment to boosting confidence in the Capital’s housing industry following the UK’s vote to leave the EU, says deputy mayor for housing, James Murray.

Speaking at the London Assembly Planning Committee, Murray said: “Last week’s European Union referendum result was not the outcome we wanted, but the fallout underscores how vital it is we do everything possible to stimulate and support the housing industry.

“There is no doubt that the vote has already caused uncertainty that will make it harder to fix the housing crisis, but our message to developers, housing associations and local authorities is that we will do all we can to give you the support and certainty you need to get through these difficult times.”

Murray said that the steps being taken would include meeting major developers and the G15, which represents London’s 15 largest housing associations, to reassure them of the Mayor’s support in progressing new developments in the capital. He said City Hall would be calling for London to receive a substantial affordable housing settlement to underpin the delivery of new housing and accelerating new planning rules to support new ‘build-to-rent’ developments.
