The main reasons for people buying or selling their home are having a family, getting married, moving in together or getting divorced, rather than the economic situation, according the latest research from Yorkshire Bank.

Findings also showed that people were optimistic about the price of their property increasing during the following year. Paul Fegan, head of personal financial services at Yorkshire Bank, said: ‘From the results of our research, we can expect the buoyancy we have experienced in the property market to continue, certainly over the next 12 months. The majority anticipates that the value of their property will rise and interest rates will increase slightly or remain the same, therefore keeping mortgage payments stable.’
