Mortgage 2000 will be talking to networks and mortgage brokers about taking on referrals from Mortgage 2000 websites, writes Paul Robertson.

Simon Nixon, chief executive of Mortgage 2000, said: ‘We have been getting 4,000 mortgage searches a day. But to date, only 25 a day are sold online, with hundreds asking for a broker to give them a ring for advice. We are finding that one in three people compare mortgages online before buying, but they then go offline to buy.

Mortgage 2000 only recently introduced the service enabling users to click on a button to get advice.

At the moment all referrals are handled by Inter Alliance, which has just completed a six-week trial. However, the volume of queries has been so high that Mortgage 2000 is now seeking more partners.

‘We are looking to extend the panel. Ideally we are looking for three to four networks or mortgage brokerages. Inter Alliance will be staying with us,’ said Nixon.

Money Supermarket, which is owned by Mortgage 2000, has details of over 4,000 mortgages, and powers about another 150 websites. These include BT Openworld, This is Money, Virgin Money and ftyourmoney.com.
