Council of Mortgage Lenders

Andrew Pople, managing director of retail banking at Abbey National, has become chairman of the CML. He succeeds Roger Burden, managing director of Cheltenham & Gloucester.

The CML also has two new deputy chairmen, Tony Ward, chief executive of Britannic Money and Keith Greenough, managing director of lending and savings at Bradford & Bingley.

Pople said: ‘Over the next 12 months the FSA will be taking key decisions on how to implement the new system of mortgage regulation due to come into effect in 2004. The CML has a vital role to play in this period in helping to shape the new system so that it works effectively.’
