Homeowners and tenants are failing to take out home contents insurance, according to Halifax which has found 80% of tenants and 33% of homeowners are without cover.

Howard Posner, general insurance managing director at Halifax, said: ‘It is easy for people to underestimate the value of their home contents. That is why it is important to have the safety net of contents insurance.’
