Applicants looking to fill the director-general role at the Association of Independent Financial Advisers (AIFA) being vacated by Chris Cummings have until 12 July to apply.

Alongside AIFA, Cummings’ replacement will have overall responsibility for the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI) and the Association of Finance Brokers (AFB).

An appointments committee, chaired by the Rt Hon. John Gummer Lord Deben, has been formed with representatives from AIFA, AMI and AFB boards.

Cummings, who announced he is leaving the trade body on 16 June after five years as its head, will depart in August to join The CityUK as chief executive, promoting the UK’s financial and related professions industry.

The position of AIFA director-general is being advertised in the intermediary trade and national media. The deadline for applications is 12 July, whereupon a shortlist of candidates will be drawn up by AIFA with interviews to follow shortly thereafter.

AIFA said it expects a replacement to be in place as soon after Cummings departs as possible.

Lord Deben, chairman of AIFA, AMI and AFB, said: “We are looking for an outstanding candidate with a thorough understanding of the retail financial services market. The intermediary profession faces a number of major challenges in the current political and economic climate.

“With further regulatory upheaval under way in the UK and the increasing influence of European policy we need an experienced individual who can lead the profession.”

Applications should be sent by email with an accompanying CV to Lord Deben at jsg@sancroft.com with the subject marked “Director General Application” by 12 July.
