This coming Saturday, 4 September 2010, sixteen intrepid cyclists from the financial services industry will set out from Lowestoft, East Anglia on a trip that will take them from the most easterly point of England to the most westerly point of Ireland.

The group, collectively known as MoneySpinners, plan to cycle more than 9,300 miles collectively to raise over £100,000 for charity.

This is the second MoneySpinners charity ride following the overwhelming success of 2009’s event, where the group travelled from Lands End to John O’Groats, raising £150,000.

This year’s route will cover 584 miles, taking in three countries starting out from East Anglia, across Wales with a ferry crossing from Fishguard to Rosslare and on to Ireland’s most westerly point at Dingle Bay, County Kerry.

MoneySpinner’s nominated charity for 2010 is Macmillan Cancer Support. Macmillan improves the lives of people affected by the disease and the majority of the riders have been touched in some way by friends and family who have fought cancer.

Anthony Thomson, chairman of Metro Bank and founding member of MoneySpinners said: “Macmillan is such a fantastic charity and hopefully we can raise a great deal of money to help support those affected by cancer. Last year’s ride was tough, but the companionship made it worthwhile. I’m looking forward to renewing friendships with those who rode last year and making new friendships with new riders. Most of all I’m looking forward to a few pints of Guinness at the end.”

Paul Chapman, commercial development manager at Colleys and first time MoneySpinners rider said: “I’m enormously excited about the trip, if not a little nervous given that 4 months ago I didn’t even own a bike. I support Macmillan as primary charity because not only is it a great cause, but this year alone, the financial services industry has lost several well-known figures to cancer.”
