Norwich letting agent admits stealing £143,000
A Norwich letting agent has admitted stealing more than £143,000 in cash from clients of the company he ran.

David Sole, 38, of The Street, Lenwade, the franchise-holder of Belvoir’s Norwich offices, admitted the theft of £143,325 from clients when he appeared at Norwich Crown Court this week.

The matter came to light after a tenant contacted Belvoir head office and told them that money he paid over to Belvoir Norwich had not been passed on to his landlord.

Other landlords also came forward claiming they were also owed money by Belvoir Norwich, including a landlord who said he was owed more than £3,000.

His sentence was adjourned until November and Judge Peter Jacobs warned Sole that all sentencing options would be open to the court.

The letting agent’s Norwich office suddenly closed in December 2009 after allegations first came to light when a tenant complained that money paid over to Belvoir had not been passed on to the landlord.

The firm’s head office sent a team to seize documents and files from the Norwich office and after investigation reported the matter to police.

The company terminated its contract with Sole, who is believed to have managed around 80 tenancies through the Belvoir Norwich office, and wrote to landlord and tenant clients offering necessary advice support and assistance from its central office team in Grantham.

The company said at the time that it could not accept liability for the past actions of Sole.
