Cumbrian mortgage broker imprisoned for 3 years
A mortgage broker from Scaleby near Carlisle, has been jailed for three years after admitting four charges of fraud and one of money laundering.

Nigel McClements, 42, was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court yesterday, to two years and three months for the fraud offences and nine months for money laundering.

McClements was arrested in Belfast in October 2010, according to the BBC report.

Local police said he had “abused his professional status to defraud innocent homebuyers.”

The investigation was launched after several victims approached the police after paying fees for mortgage applications and surveyors’ reports, then heard nothing more.

Police said the full extent of losses was estimated to be more than £70,000.

According to police reports, the broker and his partner, Andrea Humble, used other people’s money to live beyond their means.
