Discounts off asking prices at all-time high
More than a third of UK property currently for sale has had the asking price cut at least once.

According to property search website Zoopla.co.uk, the average discount off available property is now £19.580, or 7.5%.

The average discount off the original asking price is more than £1,000 bigger than this time last year, with the biggest discounts on properties in Glasgow (9.2%), Blackpool (9%) and Maidstone (8.5%).

Stockport has the highest proportion of discounted properties (49%), followed by Chesterfield (45%) and Rotherham (44%).

Nicholas Leeming of Zoopla.co.uk, said: “The current average discount of £19,580 is a new high indicating that sellers have come to terms with the market realities. Pricing correctly remains key when selling a home and whilst there is a shortage of sale stock currently, buyers are more discerning and more informed than ever before.

“Serious sellers must do their homework and follow the advice of their agent before settling on an asking price, otherwise they may well find their property on the market for longer than they’d hoped.”
