The issues that got you hot under the collar
Each Friday, Mortgage Solutions takes a look back at the best reader comments on the website.

Industry doubts MoJ can clampdown on bogus CMCs

These people have been cutting and pasting endowment complaints for a decade or so. The MoJ claim that they were not aware of this.

Mortgage brokers are now getting the fallout from lump sum PPI claims that are nothing to do with us, to be shortly followed by fictional mortgage complaints.

I sincerely hope it doesn’t take another decade to snuff out these unlawful activities. The MoJ need to wake up and smell the coffee. False claims are nothing short of fraud!

FSA strips permissions from mortgage broker

I’m not defending or excusing this chap whatsoever. I just think the FSA’s statement should apply equally to Barclays and any other institution found guilty of acting in a similar vein. Can’t see FSA removing Barclays permissions though, can you?

Metro Bank to pilot selling mortgages through brokers

“Well done to John Charcol for finding a new bank that’s actually prepared to lend, with quality underwriting, that hasn’t been tainted by umpteen scandals, and nor have they had to be bailed out by us good old taxpayers!

Halifax to refund valuation costs for failed house purchases

This is an impressive move by the Lloyds Banking Group and alleviates much of the frustration experienced when buyers lose the property through no fault of their own.

As brokers, it is important not just to advise clients on rate, but also on these type of factors as such a built in insurance and assurance, can mean this type of product is more suitable to certain purchasers needs.

A real innovation and market first. Well done Halifax/Lloyds!

Will the supermarkets sweep up on mortgages?

There should be some degree of law. Supermarkets are becoming so big, they are destroying masses of businesses, family run businesses and local high street businesses.

They should be restricted to sell food and food only. They are getting too big for their boots and steamroller the councils to letting them have their stores in lieu of a new roundabout or a nice new police station building.

There is only one word for this type of business – damaging. When the penny drops, it will be too late.
