We bid farewell to Grant ‘Grantmeshelter’ Shapps
The announcement of Mark Prisk as the new Housing Minister means that we are not only bidding farewell to Grant Shapps but also his fake Twitter impersonator @grantmeshelter, who has been parodying the political figure since January.

Shapps has been promoted to co-chairman of the Conservative party, so sadly his Twitter persona fades in relevance as an essential ‘contact’ for Mortgage Solutions. But his Twitterfeed and eternal spark of genius will live on…

The fake Grant once described himself as an “honest-to-god housing minister” but a “homeboy by nature” and past tweets from the spoof account, which sports a photo of the real housing minister, have included comments on a variety of housing issues.

At the beginning of the year, he urged his Twitter followers to be positive about economic issues as a whole: “LET’S TURN #THISCOUNTRY ‘ROUND MOFOS!!!”

More recently, he gave his view on the government’s decision to make squatting an offence from September 1.

“This w/e, long-term squatters are being evicted from the otherwise empty properties they’ve kept patched up for years…” [sic]

On January 20, he said: “All these h8ers stop being negative about equity and start getting DEEP into PEACE bruv.”

He often encourages his followers to join him in his own cheers: “‘We all follow Gra-ant Shapps!’ – echo! – ‘he puts housing on the map'”.

“Grant me shelter Grant me love, Grant me greatness from Above, let the world proclaim today, Grant is here, Grant is here!”

The fake Grant has also raised his concerns to the industry: “@Shelter always with the ‘rogue’ landlord’s but what about rogue tenants? Mine are right scoundrels! #takeresponsibility”

He is also known to be an agony aunt, helping his followers deal with their problems.

“’Deeear Laaandlord, please don’t dismiss my case – -‘Pay your rent Bob and you won’t get no grief, ‘simples’!!! Help yrself no one else will!”

While as of yet unrecognised by the political establishment, “Grant “has continued to tweet undeterred.

Following the Prime Minister’s decision to promote Grant Shapps to Conservative Party co-chairman yetserday, fake Grant got in touch with Mortgage Solutions.

He told editor Vicky Hartley: “I am your new char woman, I mean Chairman. Or at least, as editor of a mortgage magazine, I hope you’re a good Tory!”

The Twitter feed has also touched on other aspects of @Grantmeshelter’s life, which apparently include strolling around his estate and poking fun at “plebs” and the Liberal Democrats.
