Expo 2012: Consumers need to be targeted via social media
Over 90% of consumers trust recommendations via social media, while just 14% trust advertising, Andrew Montlake told delegates at the Mortgage Business Expo in London today.

Montlake, communications manager at Coreco, said that this was the beginning of the ‘age of the customer’ and encouraged brokers to consider ways they could improve business model via social media.

He told delegates: “We all think we are the best at what we do, so prove it by showcasing your skills using social media platforms.”

He told delegates that Twitter marketing jumped from 3% of companies in 2008 to 49% in 2009.

He said 77% of UK consumers would use information from blogs, which could influence purchase information.

Montlake also warned brokers to be aware of regulatory issues, and ensure they use social media to engage with customers and be interesting.

He explained the key reasons for the industry to embrace social media including increasing lead generation, reduce cost of marketing, and increase a website’s search engine optimisation and for brokers to reach out to new audiences.
