Next Fifty Shades of Grey set in Tuscan buy-to-lets
Property investor and ex-City worker Tom Barry has become the latest author to leap into the raunchy romance novel genre with his Tuscany-set novel When the Siren Calls, which centres on an Italian buy-to-let deal.

Foreign property investor and ex-management consultant for PWC Barry set the novel in a luxury tourist development in Tuscany harnessing his own experiences as a multiple-property owner in Tuscany, Mallorca and San Diego.

Published by Matador and distributed by Troubador, the novel is described as a “story of seduction, deception and betrayal.”

The central character Isobel, who is described as restless and neglected is invited to an idyllic Tuscan retreat owned by the suave and streetwise Jay who begins to imagines a life of excitement outside her stagnant marriage.

“She appears to have everything she desires, until she meets Jay Brooke, a persuasive businessman who seduces her into investing in his Tuscan holiday retreat, and to take a dangerous path to discover what she really wants out of life,” said the media pack.

The author Barry said: “I know a lot about the siren call of living in the sun, having answered that call myself, and I’ve learnt the hard way about the perils and pitfalls of overseas property investment. So I set my story against the background of a dream holiday condominium for expats. It could be anywhere you find Brits in the sun, but I chose Tuscany because I love visiting there, and I knew stereotypical hot-blooded and hot-headed Italians would add plenty of spice to my story.”
