MBE Manchester 2013 Expo cancelled; rival mortgage shows to launch
In a blow to the industry, Manchester Business Expo has been cancelled less than four weeks before the event at the Lancashire County Cricket Club.

Exhibitors were reportedly told last night and Mortgage Solutions understands the decision was taken as a result of uncertain financing, slow contractual sign-ups and the resignation of show manager James Prosser who could not be reached today.

The event was due to run on 23 May and questions remain over the London event scheduled to run at the Excel in east London from 13-14 November.

Several rival shows are set to launch later this year, including a further The Mortgage Event in partnership with Mortgage Solutions to support the northern advice market with details to be announced shortly.

The website, which is still live, lists 26 exhibitors and sponsors included  Nationwide, Virgin, The Mortgage Works, Aldermore, Platform, Accord and Precise.

The event was also media partnered by several trade mortgage titles including Mortgage Solutions.

Association of Mortgage Intermediaries CEO Robert Sinclair said the trade body had supported the successful event for two years with its seminar programme but said the trade body was likely to support at least one of the new-launch mortgage shows later this year.

However, he said, the industry was likely to be genuinely surprised and disappointed by the Manchester Expo’s cancellation.

“It would have been far better for it to have happened,” he said.
