Help to Buy and FLS drove 82% applications spike – Mortgage Advice Bureau
The impact of government-backed schemes such as Funding for Lending and Help to Buy has propelled Mortgage Advice Bureau (MAB) to its biggest ever month.

MAB completed £554.7m worth of applications in July, up 82% year-on-year. The firm said the month was its biggest single month of business since it launched in 2000.

It said that government schemes had rekindled interest in the housing market and that business had dramatically increased following the launch of the Help to Buy equity loan scheme in March.

Across the year so far, MAB said the value of its mortgage applications had reached £3.32bn, over 50% up on the £2.21bn recorded in the first seven months of 2012.

Mortgage Advice Bureau chief executive Peter Brodnicki (pictured) said: “The new found momentum in the mortgage arena is visibly attracting more borrowers, helped by government initiatives including the Funding for Lending Scheme and Help to Buy.

“MAB has invested significantly in its broker and network propositions over the last five years. As a result we have attracted many of the UK’s leading advisers and appointed representative (AR) firms, especially over the last 18 months which has seen a record rate of growth.

“That combined with the improving economic landscape and unprecedented demand has helped us to deliver these record business volumes.”
