Newbury BS launches mutual poetry competition
Mutual-loving brokers who know how to turn a rhyme could win £250 for their poetry in a competition launched today.

Newbury Building Society is inviting entries on the theme of mutual respect until 31 October 2013. Each month, two winners will be presented with a framed copy of their poem. After the final deadline, a Newbury executive will help pick an overall winner for the £250 prize.

A Newbury spokesman explained: “Mutual respect is very key to our business, in order to give our staff and members the respect they deserve.

“The competition is looking for something that is innovative and personal to the individual.”

This is not the first time the mutual sector has ventured into the regions of poetry. In May, Building Societies Association chair David Webster handed over to his successor David Cutter in rhyme.

Webster told the gathered mutuals they had the chance to ‘do really well’ like Webster’s team Celtic ‘winning the SPL.’

He added: “As for me, sadly no million dollar transfer to Morgan Stanley/ I’m going back to my day job at my beloved Hanley.”

The Hanley Economic Building Society chief executive described the Newbury competition as innovative: “The theme is very timely given the resurgence of the mutual message across the financial services sector over the past few years and yet it is broad enough to interpreted from a very personal angle. I hope it’s a huge success.”
