Police are investigating a US financial adviser who allegedly donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to a religious sect on behalf of a senile client.

John E. Larkin sold 87-year-old Susan Strong Davis’s house before donating $600,000 (£375,900) to the Kabbalah Centre, the Jewish organisation to which he belongs.

Her new home is being built on land Larkin previously owned and sold to her at “a substantial personal profit,” according to the LA Times.

To facilitate the construction of a home on the site, Davis borrowed $2.65m from the trust, according to property records and court filings.

He began managing her family trust fund, valued last year at $11m, three decades ago and subsequently assumed other roles including overseeing her personal finances.
