Output in UK construction has witnessed a rebound in March after activity was estimated to have decreased by 1.1% in the first quarter compared with Q4 2014.

Work in the construction industry surged by an estimated 3.9% in March following falls in January and February, while edging up 1.6% compared with March 2014.

According to figures published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), private sector house building increased by 2.3% compared to last month, rising by 11.1% compared to the same time a year ago.

Output in UK construction dropped by around 0.3% between quarter one 2014 and quarter one 2015, the first year-on-year fall since the second quarter of 2013.

The ONS said downward pressure on the sector came from all new work, which fell by 1.7% from January to March.

The current volume of new private housing stands at 5,314 million, compared to the highest volume of 6,202 million in quarter four of 2006 and the lowest volume of 3,045 million in Q3 2009.
