Insurance sector rated most sexist by female workers
The insurance industry is doing the least to promote equal opportunities between the genders according to women from the millennial generation, a survey by PwC has found.

The survey involved interviews with over 8000 millennials, defined as those born between 1980 and 1995, worldwide with 600 working in financial services.

Female millennials surveyed felt insurers were doing less to promote equality with promotion more biased towards men than in other financial services sectors.

Eight out of 10 believed that while insurers talked about diversity, opportunities were not equal for all, compared to 73% in financial services generally.

Employers were felt to not be doing enough to encourage diversity by 64% of female millennials, compared to 61% in financial services overall.

Jonathan Howe, UK insurance leader at PwC, said: “At a time when the insurance industry needs to focus on developing brand reputation and delivering customer-centric product offerings and communication channels, attracting and retaining more women at all levels of the organisation could provide the catalyst needed for a real shift in attitudes and consumer engagement.

“This should serve as a wake-up call to those in the insurance sector to bring their diversity policies to life, re-evaluate how they develop their people and create a structure where women can thrive.

“Having visible female role models at all levels of an organisation will be an important step to show employees and potential employees that leadership positions are achievable for all.”
