Figures published by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) showed that the output of new private housing increased by 3.9% during the period covering April to June this year.
Compared with May 2015, construction output was estimated to have increased by 0.9% in June, rising by 2.6% compared to June 2014.
Output is determined by the ONS as the amount charged by construction companies to customers for the value of work, excluding VAT and payments to sub-contractors.
Upward pressure on prices during the second quarter came from all new work, which increased by 1%.
