Mortgage complaints to FOS drop year-on-year
The number of new mortgage enquiries and complaints received by the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) has fallen year-on-year, its statistics reveal.

From the beginning of FOS’s financial year, which runs in April, to the three months to September, 8,316 enquiries about mortgages were received and 5,948 mortgage complaints were initiated.

This compares to 10,064 enquiries received over the same period last year and 6,335 mortgage complaint cases; a fall of 6% in actual complaints.

Of the complaints dealt with by FOS, 31% of cases were upheld compared to 32% in the previous year.

During quarter two, from July to September, 58% of all complaints received by FOS were related to Payment Protection Insurance compared to 65% in Q2 in 2014. Mortgages represented a 3% share of all complaints received in Q2 which was fairly static year-on-year.
