Society of Mortgage Professionals embarks on 10-event roadshow
The Society of Mortgage Professionals (SMP) has announced it will embark on a roadshow of ten events focusing on the mortgage and protection market this year.

The first five events will begin in Newcastle on 8 March and finish in London on 18 March. The second series will start in Haydock, Lancashire on 4 October and finish in London on 13 October.

The morning sessions will provide a regulatory update from the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), and includes sessions on peer-to-peer lending.

In the afternoon, the workshops focus on protection, including behavioural science and market research-based business opportunities.

Speakers at the events include Jeremy Duncombe, director of mortgages at L&G, and Paul Clampin, chief lending officer at Landbay, along with the FCA.

Each event will provide Continuing Professional Development of up to five hours, accredited by the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), the Personal Finance Society (PFS) and the SMP.

Lee Travis, head of professional development at Society of Mortgage Professionals (SMP), said: “The year ahead promises to be a significant one for the sector, with an increasingly revitalised mortgage market, and a growing awareness of the need for protection products among the generally under-insured UK public.

“We shall be highlighting the things that not only make good commercial sense for advisers, but also produce the best customer outcomes.”

He said the programme will focus on the changes the SMP believes will further influence and impact on the market in 2016, to help advisers best equip themselves for the business opportunities that lie ahead.
