Legal and General Homes invests £500m in housebuilding factories
Legal and General plans to invest over half a billion pounds into the construction of housebuilding factories which will churn out ready-made homes at sites across the UK.

A report by Inside Housing revealed L&G will invest £55m into the development of a factory near Leeds which will be able to produce 3,000 houses or 4,500 flats a year.

Following the Leeds venture it plans to inject £500m into building similar sites at various locations across the country. The firm has created a separate division, L&G Homes, to manage the production line properties.

Robert Hall, head of business development at L&G Homes, described the factories as ‘true off site manufacturing’.
“The process we use involves no tradesmen, zero. The homes will be built complete in the factory, carpets, curtains, white goods, television,” said Hall.

“All the units are not a set pattern, you can have any design you wish. What we’re looking to do is have a design suite where tenants and residents can come and almost design their own homes.”

The Leeds factory, the largest off-site manufacturing facility in Europe, will be formally launched in the coming weeks.
