Man held in custody accused of £250k mortgage fraud and international Bitcoin laundering
A man accused of a £250,000 mortgage fraud as part of a £1m international Bitcoin and money laundering operation has been remanded in custody awaiting trial.

Dale Pearson, aged 25 from Dundee, is also accused of supplying drugs across the UK.

According to a report from the Dundee Evening Telegraph, he is charged with fraudulently gaining a mortgage of more than £250,000 from Halifax Bank as part of his global activities.

Pearson is alleged to have deceived financial advisers at Carrington Mortgage UK in Glenrothes, along with SA Accountants and Thorntons Law Solicitors, both in Dundee, to conduct the fraud.

Dundee Sherriff Court reportedly heard that he used the £251,294 mortgage to purchase two properties in Dundee.

This started the six-year-long operation which ran from September 2011 to August 2017.

In total, Pearson faces three charges addressing the mortgage and other financial frauds.

He is also charged with nine drug-related offenses and is expected to stand trial later this year.

Global banks

According to a post by Etoro, prosecutors allege that Pearson laundered money and Bitcoins totalling more than £750,000 and took more than £50,000 from banks around the world, including China, Pakistan, Hong Kong and Dubai.

The Evening Telegraph also reported that the drug-related offences are alleged to have included supplying Class A, B and C drugs across the UK including a UK Border Force property in Coventry.

Police Scotland confirmed to Mortgage Solutions that a 25-year-old man had been charged and a report sent to the Procurator Fiscal – the public prosecutor in Scotland.

He will next appear at Dundee Sherriff Court on July 24.
