A spokesperson from John Charcol told Mortgage Solutions he could not confirm whether this is retirement or Avrili’s next career move.
Avrili was appointed director of product and mortgage technical in January this year.
He started his career at John Charcol in 1984 as an independent broker, before holding senior positions including sales and operations director, chief operating officer and managing director. In 2001, when John Charcol was part of Bradford & Bingley, Avrili set up its nationwide mortgage broker network ‘Marketplace’.
Over the years he has seen John Charcol through eight changes of ownership including three MBOs and two trade sales to PLCs. He led the most recent John Charcol MBO with private equity partners Palatine PE.
Mortgage Solutions presented Avrili with a British Mortgage Awards lifetime achievement award in 2014 after 30 years in the industry and a glittering career.
A spokesperson from John Charcol said: “Walter has been with John Charcol over three decades almost from the genesis of mortgage broking. He has seen all the changes the industry has gone through in that time. Walter has worked with hundreds of brokers and lenders in that time making many friends along the way.
