Mortgage advisers should be communicating regularly with landlord clients to help support their decisions and inform them about market changes.

The panel on Mortgage Solutions Television in association with BM Solutions agreed that being pro-active could ensure clients were prepared for what was likely to come their way.

Doug Hall, director of 3mc, suggested there were several ways to potentially do so.

“What’s wrong with sharing news with them that we see in the market? Maybe UK Finance figures about how the market is performing in comparison to last year,” he said.

“What’s wrong with maybe doing a newsletter out to your clients to maybe talk around the criteria changes that have happened, how different lenders are working and what the new products are like.

“Obviously have them compliance checked, but its key that intermediaries are communicating.”

He added: “It can be a lonely job as a landlord and they use us as a conduit to make sure we’re feeding them with the right information about what the market is doing”.

The panel comprised:

Victoria Hartley, group editor, Mortgage Solutions

Phil Rickards, head of BM Solutions

Andrew Montlake, managing director, Coreco

Doug Hall, director, 3mc
