The posters ran in May and June. They said: “Every second someone in the world gets married and every second someone contacts an estate agent about a home on Rightmove.”
And: “Every second a bee flaps its wings 230 times and every second someone contacts an estate agent about a home on Rightmove.”
The posters attracted the complaint that the claim about Rightmove’s volume of leads was misleading and could not be substantiated.
Rightmove responded by pointing to data from its 2018 annual report showing that email and phone enquiries made through its website, app and trackable phone numbers demonstrated it received 42 million leads a year. This was equivalent to 1.3 enquiries a second.
The ASA ruled that the figures were “sufficiently robust as the basis for the advertising claim.”
