That’s an increase of six per cent from October last year, and makes it the second busiest month for registration in 2019 so far.
Of the new registrations, 10,688 were in the private sector, slightly down from the 10,941 at the same time last year. However, the number in the affordable and rental sector grew from 3,553 to 4,655.
For the three months up to the end of October, 40,472 new homes were registered. This is down by four per cent on the same period in 2018, while private sector registrations have dropped by 12 per cent.
During the quarter, four of the UK’s 12 regions saw a rise in registrations. This was most pronounced in the West Midlands, which saw a 56 per cent increase, followed by London (10 per cent) and Yorkshire and Humberside (six per cent).
Steve Wood, chief executive of NHBC, said: “Following several months of slowdown as a result of Brexit uncertainties, it is promising to see encouraging numbers for October.”
