Budget 2020: Mortgage guidance help for self-employed borrowers
The chancellor has used the 2020 Budget to promise improved mortgage guidance available for self-employed people.

The initiative was announced as part of measures to ensure businesses have access to “high quality support and advice in their region”.

Recent research by online broker Trussle found that self-employed borrowers are less likely to get their mortgage approved than any other ‘under-served’ group.

In fact retirees and people with bad credit are more likely to get a mortgage approved than someone who is self-employed.

The government is to also consider how to provide support to self-employed parents so that they can continue to run their businesses, as part of its wider review of Parental Pay and Leave.

And in an effort to make it easier for self-employed people to navigate the tax system, there will be a new interactive online guidance tool launching this summer.
