Paradigm Mortgage Services has added Scottish Building Society to its panel, giving its members access to the mutual’s wide range of products.

Scottish Building Society is nearly 175 years old, and appointed Ian Wilson as its chair yesterday, following the retirement of Raymond Abbott.

Products it offers include residential, entrepreneur, guarantor, and professional mortgages for both purchasers and remortgagors.

The mutual also offers retirement interest-only mortgage (RIO) and products for self-build and custom build, along with holiday let products.

On the professional side, the lender offers “flexible criteria”, day one self-employed doctors, solicitor partners and those with varying cash flow.

In its entrepreneur range, the company allows one-year self-employed, one-year accounts and net profit can be used as income.

Scottish BS will also use project end value to calculate the loan to value for remortgage and home improvements.

On the later life side, the mutual will lend through a self-invested personal pension, offers RIO with standard lending up to the age of 85 and no maximum term.

The company will also consider borrowers with impaired credit history.

Richard Howes (pictured), director of mortgages at Paradigm Mortgage Services, said the Scottish mortgage and protection market was an “increasingly important one” for the firm and it was pleased to appoint Scottish BS to its panel in response to member feedback.

He added: “It is active in a wide range of product and sector areas and its flexible approach to underwriting means it can look at individual circumstances rather than operating a tick-box approach.

“We believe there is much to interest advisers and their clients in the product range and proposition, and Paradigm will continue to work closely with our member firms in Scotland to add value to their businesses across a wide range of areas as well as identify new opportunities.”

Paradigm appointed Sarah Blackwood as a senior relationship manager for Scotland, Northern Ireland and North East. She joins from Santander where she was a business development manager.

Howes said with Blackwood’s appointment, the firm was “excited about working with both existing and new contacts within these regions to help them secure the most from their membership”.

Stephen Brown, head of intermediaries at Scottish Building Society, said it was delighted to partner with Paradigm Mortgage Services.

“We are known for our personal approach to service and flexible underwriting and look forward to helping members of Paradigm over the coming weeks and months. We truly value the strong connections we have with our intermediary partners.”

He pointed to its strong net promoter score and overall satisfaction from brokers. Brown said that brokers in Scotland and North of England should call the mutual to “experience our award-winning broker service”.
