Nottingham BS brings on Ashton as board chair

Nottingham Building Society has appointed Robin Ashton (pictured) as the chair of its board from 1 July.
Ashton will succeed Andrew Neden as Nottingham Building Society’s chair, who is stepping down and retiring after 10 years on the board. He has served as chair since 2020.
As Nottingham Building Society chair, Ashton will “play a vital role in overseeing the society’s ongoing transformation journey, centred around its commitment to helping more people own their own home”.
Ashton has been on Nottingham Building Society’s board of directors and has had a “successful and varied executive and non-executive career in financial services”, the mutual said, adding that he has a “strong track record in leading transformative change and driving business growth”.
He is currently a non-executive director and chair of the audit and risk committee at Domestic and General Group, a role he has held since 2019, and has overseen a “period of expansion and digital transformation.”
Prior to that, he was chair of Leeds Building Society between 2013 and 2020. He was also a non-executive director and senior independent director and chair of the remuneration committee at Shawbrook Bank between 2011 and 2022.

‘Our vision of increasing homeownership’
Ashton said: “On behalf of the board, I would like to thank Andrew Neden for his significant contribution to the society since 2014, and in particular for his commitment and exemplary leadership as chair over the past four years.
“Nottingham Building Society has a rich heritage and loyal customer base, and I see great potential for growth as we continue our transformation journey to serve better the needs of today’s borrowers and savers. I am looking forward to working with CEO Sue Hayes and the team to help deliver our vision of increasing homeownership and continuing to provide an attractive savings proposition for our members.”
Neden continued: “I am delighted that Robin will be taking over as chair of the board. It’s been a privilege to serve on the board for the last 10 years and as chair since 2020.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the many colleagues and our members for their support. Since joining the board in December, Robin has proven his experience will be invaluable to Nottingham Building Society as it enters the next stage of its journey and I wish him and the team well.”
