Alvarez (pictured) joins the society with 25 years’ experience, having held senior positions with Morgan Stanley, Nationwide, Mansfield Building Society, and Vida Homeloans.
Most recently, he served as the head of division for partner finance at wealth manager St. James’s Place.
As part of his new role at Leeds Building Society, Alvarez will be responsible for the delivery of the sales strategy for intermediary mortgages and managing the field-based relationship management team in the South of England and Northern Ireland.
“I am excited to work alongside the talented colleagues who are driving the business forward, and look forward to building and developing teams within the mortgage distribution function,” he said.

Last month, Leeds Building Society made limited company underwriting and criteria improvements while increasing access to its business development manager (BDM) team to support brokers.
The lender now permits up to four directors and shareholders to be named on an application and will accept non-director shareholders. Lending goes up to 80% loan to value (LTV) and newly established special purpose vehicles are permitted.
