Dobson (pictured) will succeed McCarthy, who joined Tandem for a two-year period to help with the integration of Oplo, Allium and the old system.
McCarthy has overseen the bank’s transformation into a single bank and the introduction of a new process, and also helped Tandem break into underlying profitability. Last year, Tandem increased its profit nearly fivefold to around £17m.
McCarthy will hold regulatory accountability until the end of this year and will work with Dobson to ensure a seamless transition. Dobson is expected to take up the role on 1 January, initially as CFO designate subject to regulatory approval.
Dobson’s appointment is part of Tandem’s financial strategy, following its first second charge mortgage securitisation, Fylde, which was completed in Q3 and saw more than £250m of assets sold.
He is currently Tandem’s treasury director and has 25 years of experience in finance and treasury roles.

Alex Mollart, CEO of Tandem Bank, said: “I’m thrilled to announce Matt as our new CFO, especially as an internal appointment. Since joining as director of treasury, he’s made a significant impact on our financial strategy, including our recent securitisation. Matt’s dedicated to our mission of helping UK consumers transition to a lower-carbon lifestyle and so I know he’s going to be a success.
“I’d also like to thank Dave McCarthy. Joining us to help with the integration of Oplo and Allium, Dave’s been instrumental in our journey – breaking into profitability and building a sustainable and well-controlled balance sheet. We wish him well on his future endeavours.”
