Mortgage Advice Bureau (MAB) has appointed Alan Richardson, formerly of LifeSearch, to the newly created role of head of protection excellence.

He will report to Andy Walton, protection proposition director at MAB.

Within his remit, he will develop strategies to deliver revenue growth, profitability and quality outcomes, and ensure Consumer Duty is central to the protection proposition.

Walton will also work with advisers to embed best practice, improve customer outcomes and deliver consistent, high-quality advice.

He joins from LifeSearch, where he worked for around 12 years, most recently as head of product.

Walton has also held roles at The Clear Group, Chartis Insurance and Aviva.

Walton said: “Protection advice is more important than ever, and Alan’s experience and focus on quality and Consumer Duty will be instrumental in helping us continue to lead the market.

“Alan brings significant experience in protection distribution and proposition development, and his appointment underlines MAB’s strategic focus on protection as a core pillar of its advice offering.”

Richardson added: “When mortgage brokers provide protection advice, ensuring strong customer outcomes, understanding, and confidence is essential.

“MAB is already doing this incredibly well, and my focus now is building on that success. This includes continuing to embed good outcomes, strengthen protection advice, and help more families and businesses access the cover they need with confidence.”

MAB also recently hired Alan Longhorn, previously at Bank of Ireland, as transformation director for customer acquisition and brought on Yaiza Luengo as chief operating officer.
