Many first-time buyers are either moving into rented accommodation too soon or will simply not save in lieu of enjoying the trappings of youth. My parents’ generation saved their deposits to buy homes but the current ones seems reluctant to do the same.
A housing solution which encourages savings seems well placed.
The opposition parties will no doubt denounce it with arguments that people cannot afford to buy in London, but that is a whole different argument.
