‘We’re all in this together?’ – Star Letter 27/11/2015
Each week, we round-up the best comments, emails and letters to the site and pick one reader contribution as our Star Letter.

This week’s Star Letter award goes to Mac75 for his comment on the story: Limited company buy to lets to be sheltered from Stamp Duty hike.

This just penalises the small landlords and lets the big boys off scot free yet again. I thought we were all in this together? Have you really thought this through George, or will you have to do a U-turn as with the tax credits.

Higher Stamp Duty should also apply to people buying their council house via Right to Buy, if they are benefiting more than small landlords and its our money being used to give them huge discounts. The discounts also have a double whammy of reducing the house price, so lower Stamp Duty and so on.

I don’t have a problem with small discounts but the current Right to Buy scheme is now raping our social housing stock disadvantaging those who will need help. Councils then have to spend more on higher rents to private landlords. Where does this all make sense?

Lifetime Tory, but I do expect common sense to prevail.
