According to local police, thefts have taken place at Coventry Building Society, HSBC, Lloyds TSB and Santander cash points, reported the Coventry Telegraph.
One victim, an 87 year-old woman, had £400 holiday money stolen from her after thieves spotted her using a Coventry Building Society cash point.
In another incident, a 69 year-old man was using a HSBC cash point when he was approached by a man who shielded the screen with a piece of paper before grabbing the pensioner’s bank card and escaping.
Pensioners have been told to use in-house cash points to avoid becoming targets.
Stewart Carter, senior manager of financial crime at Coventry Building Society, said: “We are very concerned about these crimes and have been working closely with the police.
“There are a number of things that people can do to help protect themselves. Try to avoid carrying large amounts of cash and be aware of people around you, particularly if they’re crowding you.”
Pensioners have also been told to talk to members of staff at the banks and building societies if they have any concerns or suspicions.
