US man pays off mortgage in pennies
A man in the United States has paid off his mortgage, making a final payment of 62,000 pennies.

Thomas Daigle of Boston, Massachusetts started saving pennies when he and his wife Sandra moved into their home in 1977. The couple collected coins weighing over 800lb during the following 35 years.

Daigle said the collection began after his wife teased him for picking up a penny from the ground soon after they bought their home.

He told the Milford Daily: “It was something I wanted to do – I always follow through.”

It took the staff at Milford Federal Savings and Loan two days to count the money, which totalled exactly 62,000 pennies. This was the opticians final repayment on his mortgage.
