There is a quiet revolution happening in the background of financial services, and most brokers are sleeping on it.

You do not need to hire a developer, spend months writing a project brief, or blow your budget on software that was built for someone else’s workflow.

The capability is called vibe coding, and it is changing what is possible for non-technical professionals overnight.

So, what is vibe coding?

It is exactly what it sounds like. Instead of writing code, you have a conversation. You open an artificial intelligence (AI) assistant, describe what you want to build in plain English, and keep refining through dialogue until you have something that works. No technical background required. Just your own words explaining a problem you already understand.

The compliance reality

Because we work in a regulated sector, this needs to be said early and clearly. A smart, polished AI interface does not automatically mean the output is secure or compliant.

Vibe coding belongs in one lane only: low-risk, internal experimentation. The moment a tool starts touching real client data, regulated advice, or anything connected to your core infrastructure, you hand it to professionals. That’s it. AI accelerates what you can build, but it does not transfer your responsibility to protect clients.

If you keep it inside those boundaries, there is a lot of ground to cover.

Where it works

The sweet spot is not your CRM or back-office platform. You would need to think smaller. Think about the tasks that quietly drain an hour or two out of every working week.

Here are some kinds of tools brokers are starting to build themselves:

  • A custom fee calculator built around your firm’s exact charging structure, not a generic template.
  • A lead pipeline tracker that visually shows where prospects are dropping out of your process.
  • A referral partner dashboard so you can see briefly which introducers are driving revenue.
  • A case criteria checklist that keeps your whole team consistent on complex submissions.

Basic? Yes. But precisely because they are small and specific, they are genuinely useful, and you can have a working version in an afternoon rather than a quarter.

Why brokers are better placed than most

Here is something the technology conversation keeps missing. Software engineers are exceptional at writing code. But they aren’t mortgage brokers. They do not know how a tricky case gets packaged, what compliance looks like on the ground, or how a lender conversation flows.

You do. And that knowledge is the real advantage here. The hardest part of building useful software is understanding the problem well enough to describe it. You are already there. You live these inefficiencies every single day. Describe one clearly to an AI tool, and the gap between problem and working prototype has essentially disappeared.

Cutting through the hype

The market is loud right now with inflated promises, and it is easy to either get swept away or dismiss the whole thing entirely.

The realistic ambition is not to become a developer. It is a shift in how you react when you hit a bottleneck. Instead of accepting the friction or adding it to a wish list for IT, you ask: Could I put together a rough version of this myself? That mindset change alone is worth more than any single tool you build.

Building with AI does not make you a software engineer. But it does give you a capability you did not have before: the ability to move from a specific, felt problem to a tested prototype without involving a single agency or waiting on a development backlog.

The firms that will define the next chapter of this industry are those that combine deep expertise with a willingness to experiment. The gap between a good idea and a working tool has never been smaller. Start there.

The brokers pulling ahead are the ones paying attention. Stay in the loop with one focused insight every week.
