Land Registry: April house prices gain 0.2%

House prices in England and Wales increased for the six month in a row in April, up 0.2% on March, according to the Land Registry.

The Land Registry’s House Price index showed that the average house price in England and Wales is now £165,596, while the annual price growth is 8.5%.

All regions in England and Wales saw increases in average property values over the last 12 months.

London recorded the highest annual price change, with growth of 14.8%, while the region with the lowest annual price rise was Yorkshire & The Humber at 0.7%.

The Land Registry figures also showed that the North East experienced the greatest monthly rise, up 3.1%. However, Yorkshire & Humberside had the most significant monthly price fall of -2.2%.

In addition, the most recent figures available showed that in February 2010, the number of completed house sales in England and Wales rose by 49% year-on-year to 40,502, up from 27,190 in February 2009.
