NatWest Intermediary Solutions has confirmed it is to slash its BDM team from 40 to 19 as part of a restructure of the business, but insisted the quality of service it offers brokers will not be affected.

The intermediary arm of the Royal Bank of Scotland said that the cuts will affect its field BDM team, sales management and business support teams, while the number of its sales managers will reduce from four to two.

Its corporate accounts team and phone-based BDM team will remain unaffected, with 15 members. In addition, NatWest’s LiveTALK team, which deals with all the pre-submission queries around applications, will also not see any changes.

A spokesman for NatWest Intermediary Solutions said that its restructuring plans are part of an ongoing UK-wide review of the RBS Group’s retail operations and reflect the current market conditions.

The lender announced the restructure plans on Wednesday 11 January to staff, who have gone into consultation. The process is expected to be completed by the end of March.

NatWest said that it is looking to redeploy a number of BDMs within the RBS group, but that exact numbers will only be known once the consultation process is completed.

The spokesman said: “In the meantime, it will be business as usual. Brokers won’t see any let up in terms of the products we are selling and the service they are getting from us.”
